GM recalls an additional 1.5 million vehicles

Update: GM announced a new recall of 1.3 million vehicles on March 31. This recall is to repair power steering issues. Recalled vehicles are: the 2004-2005 Chevrolet Malibu, and some 2006, 2008, and 2009 models; 2004- 2005 and some 2006 of the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx; some of the 2010 model year Chevrolet HHR non-turbo; some of the 2010 model Chevrolet Cobalt; some 2008 and 2009 model year Saturn Auras; all 2004-2007 Saturn Ions; and the entire 2005 model year Pontiac G6, as well as some 2006, 2008, and 2009 vehicles. GM more than doubles size of ignition switch recall

General Motors is increasing the number and brands of cars included in a recall that was announced last week. The recall now affects 1.6 million vehicles built between 2003 and 2007. In addition to 778,000 Chevrolet Cobalts and Pontiac G5s, GM also is recalling 592,000 Saturn Ions, Chevrolet HHRs, Pontiac Solstices and Saturn Skys in the United States, plus 253,519 more in Canada and Mexico. Power, the number of problems per 100 vehicles increased 6 percent last year. It’s the first time since the 1998 study that the average number of auto repair problems has increased. Toyota recalls affect nearly 1 million vehicles

Toyota is recalling 713,000 model year 2010 through 2014 Prius vehicles in North America. In the affected vehicles, the Intelligent Power Module inside the inverter module (a component of the hybrid system) contains transistors that may become damaged from high operating temperatures. If this occurs, various warning lamps will be illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle will have reduced power, allowing it to only drive a short distance or stall. GM recalls 778,000 Chevy Cobalts, Pontiac G5s

General Motors is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, and 2007 Pontiac G5 vehicles because of a faulty ignition switch. The company says the weight of heavy key rings combined with bumpy roads can move the ignition to the off position, which shuts off the engine without warning. If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
